Softwood

Softwoods come from trees that are known as gymnosperms. This means that their seeds are not covered, unlike hardwoods which produce seed that is covered (like nuts and fruits).

There are some benefits from burning softwood and some potential problems. Firstly, softwood tends to be cheaper than its hardwood equivalent. This comes from its relative speed of growth and shorter seasoning time. It burns bright and hot but more quickly than hardwood and can produce sparks and tar, which over time can affect your chimney.

Softwood loads consists primarily of Pine or Larch and can be supplied in the same formats as hardwood. We do not use conifer.
